DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Our unfiltered test. Performance, Problems, and Opinions
The new 2026 Ducati Panigale V2 S marks a technological turning point in the history of the Borgo Panigale twin-cylinder engine. With the transition to the new 90° V2 engine (abandoning traditional Desmodromic distribution in favor of a more compact spring-return valve system), Ducati is redefining the positioning of its "baby" superbike. The S model acts as a bridge between street-legal Supersports and V4 platforms, focusing entirely on power-to-weight ratio and agility.
How does the DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026 really ride? Find out in our exclusive test: we analyze real performance, top speed, reliability, and what didn't convince us.
Reference Technical Specifications
Engine: 90° V2, 890 cc, spring-return valve system.
Maximum Power: 120 HP (88 kW) at 10,750 rpm.
Maximum Torque: 93.3 Nm at 8,250 rpm.
Curb Weight (without fuel): 176 kg.
Top Speed: 240 km/h (actual).
Average Consumption: 5.8 l/100 km.
List Price: 18,550 Euros.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Build Quality
Component quality is high. The aluminum monocoque frame is finished with millimetric tolerances. Wiring is protected by aerospace-grade heat-shrink tubing. However, the heat radiated from the rear exhaust headers tends to dull some of the technical plastic parts under the seat over the long term.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Ergonomics and Ride Comfort
Rider: Racing riding position. The tank is shaped to lock the legs during hard braking, which is excellent for sporty riding but tiring if you are not physically conditioned.
Aerodynamic Protection: The windshield offers good protection only if the rider tucks in completely behind the instrument cluster.
Vibrations: The new generation V2 is well-balanced, but between 6,000 and 7,000 rpm, it transmits noticeable frequencies to the machined aluminum footpegs.
Heat: The heat from the rear cylinder remains a trademark, noticeable at city speeds and very annoying at low speeds during the summer.
Passenger: Riding two-up is purely theoretical. Space is minimal, the seat incline is extreme, there is no secure handhold to grab, and general ride comfort is very limited.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Suspension
The S version adopts Öhlins suspension (NIX30 fork and TTX36 mono-shock). The tuning is track-oriented, with stiff and progressive hydraulics. On road asphalt, even with the softest settings, the response to imperfections is harsh.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Suspension Set-up Guide
For street use, we recommend reducing the fork preload by 2 full turns and softening the shock rebound damping by 3 clicks compared to the "Track" configuration. This reduces pitching when entering corners on uneven surfaces.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Braking and Traction Control
Equipped with Brembo M50 monobloc calipers. Power is excellent, but the radial master cylinder (though high quality) requires consistent pressure to avoid feeling spongy after 15 minutes of sporty riding. The traction control (DTC EVO 2) is the best software on the market in terms of intervention granularity.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Engine Performance and Top Speed
Top Speed: 268 km/h indicated on the dashboard, approximately 240 km/h actual GPS speed.
Acceleration: 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds thanks to launch electronics.
Engine Smoothness and On-Off: The new injection management system has almost completely eliminated the on-off effect at low loads.
Heat: Thermal management is critical in heavy traffic.
Roll-on: Roll-on from low revs in sixth gear is less fluid compared to the previous Desmo engine, requiring a downshift for a decisive overtake.
General Performance: The engine is less "explosive" down low but more constant in power delivery up to the redline, with more mid-range "backbone." It puts less strain on the chassis and the rider. Overall performance is excellent and aligned with other bikes of similar power. Unfortunately, the list price is closer to a 200-horsepower 1000cc bike than a 120-horsepower 600cc class bike. Conversely, the bike is easier to ride than a 1000cc and performs better than a 600cc, which suffers from less torque and push at low and mid-range revs.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Engine Set-up Guide
Use the "Sport" map for street use: it offers the most linear torque curve. Avoid the "Race" map on public roads due to the overly direct throttle response.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Transmission Functionality and Issues
The bidirectional Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) is fast and precise but requires a firm shift. If you graze the pedal without engaging with force, the system may produce false neutrals between fifth and sixth gear. It is not a "buttery" gearbox, and coming from a Japanese bike, you might be disappointed, but with due experience, it does not miss a beat.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Handling, Stability, and Safety
In the city: Useless and tiring.
Extra-urban: Excellent handling. Fast and competitive on routes full of medium-to-high-speed corners.
Highway: Stable, but tiring.
Mountain passes: The bike it was born for. Surgical precision when tipping in, extremely fast in direction changes, fast on corner exit, perfect setup.
With a passenger: Not recommended.
Off-road: You can manage a few meters of unpaved road at a walking pace to park the bike.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Fuel Consumption
Average consumption of 5.8 l/100 km. On the track, this figure easily doubles, exceeding 12 l/100 km.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Conclusions, Pros, and Cons
Pros: Low weight, refined electronics, Öhlins chassis, more reliable new engine.
Cons: Limited comfort, rear cylinder heat, delicate DQS shifting, high price.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Advice
Replace the factory tires with dual-compound products for a better feeling in the wet and adjust the suspension to your personal riding style.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Alternatives
Aprilia RS 660 (lighter), MV Agusta F3 800 (more refined but more complex), Yamaha R9 (less iconic, but just as fast).
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Accessories and Upgrades
Full racing exhaust (track use only), adjustable rear-set footpegs, oversized windshield for riders over 1.85m tall.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Maintenance Guide
"Desmo" service every 24,000 km. It is a cheaper engine to maintain than its predecessor thanks to the departure from the Desmodromic system.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: Known Issues
No structural problems. Monitor the TPS sensors, which can sometimes send incorrect signals upon startup in humid climates.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: FAQ
Is it suitable for beginners? No, the torque and the chassis require experience.
How much does a set of brake pads cost? Approximately 120 Euros per set.
DUCATI PANIGALE V2 S 2026: What didn't convince us
Excessive price for the performance actually delivered on the road, combined with still excessive heat and a gearbox that is far from the standards of a Japanese bike. Finally, much of the authentic and raw character of the old Desmo twin-cylinder has been lost.
