Voge RR500S: New Chinese Sports Bike with Four Cylinders – A Mid-Range Game Changer?
With the Voge RR500S, the Chinese manufacturer is introducing a new lightweight model to the class of sporty mid-range motorcycles. The RR500S aims to compete with established models such as the Yamaha R7 and R9, Aprilia RS660, and Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R. Particularly noteworthy is the four-cylinder engine, which has become rare in this displacement class.
Technical Specifications: High-Revving Four-Cylinder Engine
The heart of the Voge RR500S is a 475 cm³ inline four-cylinder engine that revs up to 14,000 rpm. The engine delivers 74 hp (54.4 kW) and develops a maximum torque of 46 Nm. For comparison, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R achieves similar performance figures but offers slightly less torque.
Special Features: Electrically Controlled Exhaust Flap
A technical highlight of the RR500S is its electrically controlled exhaust flap. Unlike many other systems, it is not controlled automatically but can be opened or closed by the rider at the touch of a button. According to the manufacturer, this function is intended not so much to increase performance as to reduce noise in city traffic. In sport mode, the flap can be opened for a more distinctive engine sound.
Chassis and Brakes: Simple but Solid Technology
The RR500S's chassis features a non-adjustable front fork and a rear shock absorber, which presumably can only be adjusted for spring preload. Braking is provided by Nissin four-piston calipers at the front and an older single-piston brake at the rear. ABS and two-channel traction control are standard features. According to reports from China, a technically upgraded version is in development that could offer additional assistance systems.
Weight and Competition Comparison
With a dry weight of 198 kg (approximately 436.5 lbs), the Voge RR500S is slightly heavier than the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R (189 kg or 417.8 lbs). However, the RR500S's higher torque is said to offer advantages, especially in road use.
Price: A Challenge from China
In China, the Voge RR500S is available at prices between £3,000 and £3,500 (approximately €3,550 to €4,150 or $3,900 to $4,550). This positions the RR500S significantly below most competitors with similar technology in terms of price.
