PIAGGIO LIBERTY 125 S 2026 Test Riding traits handling stability safety
In the city
Urban environments represent the ideal habitat for the Liberty 125 S. A curb weight of just 115 kg combined with the 16-inch front wheel (running a 90/80 tire) guarantees extreme agility in direction changes. The scooter slices through the tightest traffic gaps with minimal physical effort at the handlebar. Stability over wet road markings is compromised by the narrow section of the factory-fit Maxxis tires, which reveal clear grip limits in wet conditions.
Extra-urban roads
On state roads, the scooter maintains precise lines as long as the tarmac is smooth. The 14-inch rear wheel (with a 100/80 tire) offers a balanced compromise between agility and lean support, but through fast sweepers tackled at top speed, a slight lightening of the front end is perceptible, requiring a fluid riding style free of sudden inputs.
Highway
Access to motorways and major expressways is restricted by current regulations in Italy for vehicles under 150 cc. The top speed performance (95 km/h real) excludes any technical suitability for these high-speed arteries regardless.
Mountain passes
On inclines, the Liberty 125 S feels the burden of its 11 hp limit. Through steep switchbacks, speed drops significantly and acceleration requires time to realign with the optimal engine RPM. On descents, combined braking action feels secure thanks to front ABS support, though the rear drum brake is prone to rapid overheating, lengthening lever throw under continuous application.
With a passenger
The presence of a pillion passenger noticeably diminishes the vehicle's dynamic capabilities. Launching from a standstill becomes sluggish, and the rear shock absorber—even when preloaded to maximum—struggles to track bumps, easily reaching its end-stroke travel over city speed bumps. Saddle space remains sufficient for short distances without excessive physical constraint.
