KTM officially unveils the new KTM 690 Rally 2027: 79 HP LC4 engine, 20-liter range, and WP XPLOR suspension. All data and the technical datasheet.

The motorcycle that off-road and African rally enthusiasts have been crying out for over a decade is finally a reality. The Mattighofen manufacturer has pulled the covers off the new KTM 690 Rally (2027), officially positioning it as the spiritual successor to the legendary KTM 640 Adventure.

No more handcrafted aftermarket kits or homemade conversions: the newcomer rolls straight out of the Austrian factory with a specialized package ready to dominate wide-open spaces and blow the mid-displacement segment wide open. Arrival at dealerships is scheduled for October 2026.

Quick Consultation Box (TL;DR)

Segment: Production Maxi-Enduro / Rally Specialist.

Dealership Arrival: October 2026 (production starts in September).

Spiritual Successor: To the historic KTM 640 Adventure (1997-2007).

Engine: 692.7 cc LC4 single-cylinder, 79 HP, and 73 Nm of torque.

Range & Tanks: Total 20-liter configuration (13-liter rear + 2 front 3.5-liter tanks integrated into the rally tower).

Dry Weight: 161.5 kg.

Design and Range: Dakar DNA in Production

Derived directly from the architecture of the proven KTM 690 Enduro R, the Rally version drastically raises the bar for long-range adventure touring. The visual impact is dominated by the new dedicated rally tower, complete with an integrated windscreen and front headlight cluster derived straight from the KTM 450 Rally Replica.

The fuel management system allows the rider to conveniently select which tank to use (front or rear) straight from the handlebar switchgear, complete with a dedicated reserve warning light. Behind the right fairing, there is also a practical tool compartment protected from impacts and easily accessible.

LC4 Engine and Record Intervals: 79 HP to Ride Far
Beneath the bodywork beats the latest evolution of the legendary 692.7 cc LC4 single-cylinder engine, compliant with Euro 5+ regulations and optimized in intake and lubrication:

Power and Torque: 79 HP and 73 Nm of maximum torque managed by a 6-speed gearbox with an integrated Quickshifter+.

Extended Maintenance: KTM has worked on reliability for long-distance travel, pushing oil change intervals to a massive 15,000 km and valve clearance checks to 30,000 km.

Advanced Electronics and Specialist Chassis
The electronic suite leverages a 6-axis inertial platform to manage active cornering safety systems:

Riding Modes: Dedicated Street, Offroad, and Rally modes.

Rally Mode & ABS: Traction control with Dynamic Slip Adjust (to regulate off-road wheelspin) and Off-road ABS that can be disengaged exclusively on the rear wheel via a dedicated button.

Suspension and Brakes: 48 mm WP XPLOR USD front fork and WP XPLOR rear monoshock with Pro-Lever linkage (265 mm front travel). Brembo braking system with a 300 mm front disc and a 240 mm rear disc. Spoked wheels measuring 21 inches front and 18 inches rear.

The CrazyWheels.it Perspective

"The KTM 690 Rally 2027 is the definitive answer the off-road world has been waiting for a decade. Instead of weighing down the formula with street-focused maxi-twins, Mattighofen has pulled the 'unicorn bike' out of the hat: specialist enduro lightness, top-tier components, and desert-ready range that makes the competition pale. A masterpiece for true knobby-tire diehards."
