Triumph transitions to the Street Triple 798 platform for model year 2027: featuring an all-new 798cc three-cylinder engine derived from Moto2 development, projected power output exceeding 130 hp, and focused chassis componentry.

⚡ 3-LINE SUMMARY (For Riders in a Hurry)

End of an Era: Following a long run with the 765cc platform, Triumph transitions to the Street Triple 798 for model year 2027.

Moto2 Pedigree: The core of the new platform is a 798cc three-cylinder engine engineered using technical development from the Moto2 World Championship.

Key Projections: Expected maximum power output pushing beyond 130 hp, paired with a wet weight targeted below 190 kg.

In the middleweight sport naked category, the Triumph Street Triple lineage has long served as a benchmark for chassis balance and engine character. However, platform evolutions are necessary to stay at the sharp end of the segment. The Hinckley brand has announced the upcoming Street Triple 798 for Model Year 2027, releasing preliminary official images of its flagship variant: the Street Triple 798 RS.

This announcement marks the phased transition away from the 765cc era, moving the road-going naked closer to pure motorsport engineering.

1. Why the Transition from the 765 Platform Occurred

The 765cc platform earned widespread acclaim for its precise front-end feedback and linear triple-cylinder power delivery. However, evolving emissions standards alongside market demand for higher mid-range torque necessitated a new architectural baseline.

Triumph previously introduced the 798cc engine architecture with the Trident 800 roadster. For the Street Triple platform, British engineers have reworked the 798cc triple with high-performance internal components, aiming to produce the most powerful and refined Street Triple iteration to date.

2. The Moto2-Derived Core: 798cc Engine Projections

Utilizing technical data gathered as the official engine supplier to the Moto2 World Championship, the new 798cc powerplant incorporates revised combustion chamber dynamics and gas-flow efficiency developed on race tracks:

Horsepower Projections: While the Trident 800 produces an accessible 115 hp, and the outgoing 765 RS outputted 130 hp, the new Street Triple 798 is expected to push peak output beyond 130 hp, supported by a beefier torque curve across the mid-range.

Weight Targets: A primary goal for Hinckley engineers is curb weight management. Keeping the wet weight of the RS model under the 189–190 kg (416–419 lbs) mark ensures a competitive power-to-weight ratio designed to match higher-displacement nakeds on technical backroads.

3. Official Reveal Timing: November 17, 2026

Detailed electronics specifications—expected to feature an updated 6-axis IMU platform—and official pricing remain unconfirmed prior to the formal unveiling.

For context, the outgoing 765 RS was priced around €12,995. Full technical specifications and official images will be presented on November 17, 2026, following the conclusion of autumn motorcycle exhibitions.

The Unfiltered Verdict

"Bringing Moto2-derived engine developments to a street-legal naked bike represents a direct challenge to established European and Japanese competitors in the middleweight segment. Provided Hinckley maintains its established standards for chassis agility and low curb weight, the incoming 798 platform is poised to set a strong benchmark for the category."
