Ducati Desmo450 EDS: The First Specialized Enduro Bike from Borgo Panigale

The Desmo450 EDS, the only motorcycle in its category with Desmodromic valve actuation, was created specifically for Enduro.

An effective, fast, and easy-to-ride bike for professionals and amateurs alike, thanks to its engine delivery and suspension developed with the contribution of multi-time world champion Antoine Meo.

By installing the racing kit at an authorized dealer, the Desmo450 EDS features traction control—a first for the Enduro world.

The Ducati Desmo450 EDS will arrive at select European dealerships starting in July 2026.

At Ducati, every motorcycle is born from a clear vision of passion, technology, and competition. With the Desmo450 EDS, this vision leaves the circuit to head to the trails and mule tracks where Enduro was born. Enduro is a unique discipline requiring endurance, control, and versatility; it demands a bike designed specifically for the sport.

Ducati engineers started with the technical foundation of the Desmo450 MX, developing solutions to handle greater distances and complex terrain. The new 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, fitted with Metzeler 6 Days Extreme tires, offer stability and precision. The new 8.5-liter transparent fuel tank is integrated into the aluminum perimeter frame, increasing range without compromising ergonomics.

The single-cylinder engine with Desmodromic distribution, road-homologated, has been revised to prioritize torque and delivery linearity. A cooling system with an electric fan ensures performance consistency in extreme conditions. The bike is equipped with comprehensive protective gear: handguards, skid plate, and dedicated clutch/alternator covers. The LED headlight design nods to Ducati’s Superbike heritage, while the LCD dashboard provides all essential information for off-road riding.

Chassis Designed for Enduro

The frame is an evolution of the Desmo450 MX aluminum perimeter frame, with engine mounts tuned for Enduro-specific stiffness. Weighing under 9 kg, the structure is composed of just 11 pieces—about half the number of competitors—using cast, forged, and extruded elements. The front section connecting the steering head to the shock mount is a single cast piece, a technology Ducati uses on its Superbikes to control wall thickness for the perfect balance of weight and strength.

The Desmo450 EDS continues the collaboration with Showa. The 49 mm forks with 310 mm travel feature softer springs than the MX version to better absorb rocks and roots, improving confidence in slow, technical sections. The rear shock, mounted on a progressive link, is tuned for traction and stability under acceleration.

Braking is handled by Brembo, featuring a two-piston floating caliper at the front and a single-piston at the rear. Galfer discs measure 260 mm front and 240 mm rear, with pads specifically developed for Enduro modulation.

Single-Cylinder Engine with Desmodromic Timing

The engine derives from the MX model but has been extensively reworked for Enduro:

Torque: Focused on low-to-mid range power for obstacles.

Performance: The Desmodromic system allows for high-RPM potential when needed.

Rideability: Features a 42 mm throttle body (vs 44 mm on MX), dedicated camshafts, a lower compression piston, and a higher-inertia crankshaft and flywheel.

Gearbox: A 6-speed transmission with a shorter first gear for technical sections and a long sixth gear for transfers.

For competition use, a Ducati Performance racing kit* can be installed, including an exhaust system, intake components, and a dedicated ECU map with specific Riding Modes. The cooling system features rhomboidal radiators that increase surface area by 6.5%, paired with an integrated electric fan for low-speed reliability.

Electronics and DTC

When equipped with the Ducati Performance racing kit, the Desmo450 EDS gains a true Ducati Traction Control (DTC) system calibrated for Enduro. Unlike standard off-road systems, it calculates power cut-off based on real rear-wheel slip and can distinguish jumps, automatically disabling when airborne. It offers four levels of intervention, configurable via the X-Link App using a WiFi module. The electronic suite also includes Launch Control and Engine Brake Control.

Adaptive Maintenance

Maintenance is divided into "MID" and "FULL" services, modulated by an algorithm that calculates a real-time engine stress index based on usage conditions, visible via the X-Link App.

MID Service (Piston/Valve clearance): 90 to 120 hours.

FULL Service (Engine overhaul): 180 to 240 hours.
