Advanced Guide to Engine Map Set-up (Ride-by-Wire)
The new 890 cc V2 engine allows for refined electronic management. Here is how to optimize the response based on conditions, acting on Power Mode and Throttle Response parameters:
- "Race" Mapping (Track / Excellent asphalt):
o Throttle Response: High. The response is immediate. Technical advice: Use it only on circuits or fast extra-urban roads with perfect asphalt. In the presence of dirty asphalt, the on-off effect is amplified by the chassis' reactivity.
o Useful setting: Set the DTC (Traction Control) to level 2. If the surface is irregular, never go below level 3 to avoid the electronics cutting torque sharply upon corner entry, destabilizing the chassis.
- "Sport" Mapping (Fast twisties / Aggressive road use):
o Throttle Response: Medium. It is the most balanced map. It reduces the on-off effect in the transition between closing and reopening the throttle, allowing for better torque management mid-corner without the rear "kicking" due to brutal power delivery.
o Useful setting: Ideal for mountain passes. Here I recommend setting the DWC (Ducati Wheelie Control) to level 2: it leaves a controlled amount of front wheel lift (useful for overcoming bumps) without losing front-end directional stability.
- "Road" Mapping (Urban use / Wet surfaces):
o Throttle Response: Low. The torque curve is "softened" (soft power reduction in the low range).
o Useful setting: Set the DTC to level 5-6. The greater electronic intrusion allows you to manage the torque of the 890 V2 safely even in slippery urban conditions (pedestrian crossings, manhole covers), where the engine's crisp response would cause continuous micro-slipping.
Final Technical Consideration
The Hypermotard V2 SP is not a bike that "forgives" map errors. My advice, as a tester, is to customize the "Sport" Riding Mode by creating a User preset where you maintain full power (High) but set the throttle response to Medium. It is the definitive configuration for fast road use: you get the full thrust of the 890 V2, but with a more manageable torque transition in hard braking or tight second-gear hairpins.
