Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 Road Test Review: Pros, Cons, Performance, Top Speed, and What You (Really) Need to Know
The bike under review: Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025, priced at €13,290 (ex-dealership).
Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 Test: Build Quality
The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 is exceptionally well-built and meticulously finished. It boasts a very comprehensive electronics package, an excellent braking system, quality wheels, and adjustable suspension. The only minor drawbacks are the non-adjustable spring preload on the fork and the absence of hydraulic preload adjustment on the shock.
The instrumentation is minimal yet complete, and the overall assembly is superb. The entire bodywork is very well crafted, the controls and other details are excellent, the frame is well-made, and the wheels are robust. It's an essential and spartan bike, but it has everything you need to go fast on the road. In short, it's an excellent motorcycle.
Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 Test: Ergonomics and Riding Comfort
The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 feels narrow, with a high seat, a forward-leaning body position, and handlebars close to the rider's torso. It's easy to stand on the footpegs, controls are smooth, and the seat, while "hard," is excellent for optimal bike control and quick shifts in the saddle.
Wind protection is sufficient up to 110 km/h. Vibrations are noticeable but not bothersome. Engine heat is acceptable but definitely present. It feels narrow between the legs, boasts perfect weight distribution, and has an incredibly light steering feel. The suspension is stiff, leading to reduced riding comfort, especially on uneven surfaces. Another drawback, at least for us, is the considerable seat height, making it a bike suited for riders at least 170cm tall.
Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 Test: Suspension
Both the fork and shock of the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 are of excellent quality, highly refined, and well-matched in their calibration. They are stiff, well hydraulically damped, and suited for fast road and track riding, typical of supermoto bikes. Both are very sensitive to adjustments, very smooth, and precise.
The fork works exceptionally well, sensitive to hydraulic adjustments, perfectly tuned for sporty use. It can feel harsh on uneven surfaces but is excellent for fast riding. The shock also performs very well, sensitive to adjustments and perfectly customizable, and equally stiff as the fork. Overall, the suspension system is excellent for sporty use.
Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 Test: Braking and ABS
The braking system boasts top-tier electronics. Despite the single front disc, the low weight and excellent components result in very short stopping distances, which are outstanding overall. Braking is very modular, remaining powerful and easily manageable on the road. The ABS and traction control systems are also very well-tuned. Ultimately, it's an excellent braking system, perfect for this bike and at the top of its category.
Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 Test: Engine Performance and Top Speed
The engine of the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 is a true "protagonist," rich in torque and power. Combined with the bike's overall lightness, this leads to truly remarkable performance. Idle is smooth; just twist the throttle, and you're catapulted forward, quickly surpassing 100 km/h and soon approaching 200 km/h.
In terms of acceleration from a standstill, it's genuinely competitive with larger displacement and theoretically more powerful bikes, offering excellent performance across the entire powerband. It's smooth at low RPMs, with excellent mid-range torque and responsiveness, delivering a decisive and powerful thrust without any drop-off right up to the redline. It pulls strongly from the mid-low range all the way to the top without ever letting up.
It also revs out well at high RPMs, where the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 reaches a top speed of approximately 220 km/h indicated on the instrument panel. 150 km/h is reached with extreme ease, and the top speed is also achieved quickly. The challenge is reaching it due to wind pressure and light steering above 200 km/h. On mixed routes, this bike is hard to beat; the tighter the road, the faster and more competitive it becomes – a true racing machine.
Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 Test: Transmission and Gearbox
The gearbox never gave any problems during the test, and the electronically assisted up-and-down quickshifter is excellent. Its use with the clutch is perfect. It's only slightly rough if you don't shift decisively, but it never misses a gear engagement and is very fast when used with determination. Smoother on upshifts, slightly rougher on downshifts, but it remains a benchmark as a racing gearbox, meant to be used with motorcycle boots: crisp, precise, and fast. The clutch operation is also excellent.
Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 Test: Handling, Stability, and Safety
The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 is a true racing "animal": nimble, intuitive, responsive, with a powerful engine always ready to unleash all its 77 horsepower.
In the city, it's easy to ride, manageable, and even easy to use in urban traffic; the only caveat is the seat height, but if desired, it can also be used for urban commuting. Outside the city, it becomes very competitive and extremely fast on extra-urban routes rich in curves, where it has few rivals on roads where speeds don't exceed 200 km/h. On the highway, you can't really exceed 110 km/h if you want good riding comfort – this is its only limitation.
Nimble and sufficiently stable, at first you'll always anticipate corner entry more than necessary; you need to get used to a bike that turns on a dime and enters corners like lightning. You always need to delay braking and corner entry, with the confidence of quickly reaching the apex and being able to open the throttle safely, gaining precious meters on corner exit. The corner entry and exit speed is extremely high, and on mountain roads, this bike is very fast and competitive. Indeed, only on fast sweeping curves might you encounter some difficulty due to a slightly light front end. The behavior and performance on mountain roads are excellent; the bike is at the absolute top, especially if the road is very winding. The steering is just slightly light at high speeds, but the bike remains safe nonetheless.
In conclusion, it's an extremely fast and competitive bike on narrow and winding roads, where it fears no rivals, neither among similar bikes nor among sportbikes. It's not the best for highway use or touring, but on a mountain road, it's a "tough nut to crack" for many other motorcycles.
Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 Test: Fuel Consumption
In our test, we observed an average fuel consumption of approximately 16 km/liter, with peaks of over 18 km/l and a maximum consumption of about 12 km/l. It's a racing bike that invites you to open the throttle; in touring use, fuel consumption could exceed 20 km/l.
Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 Test: Conclusions, Pros, and Cons
The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono 2025 has proven to be a very competitive and high-quality motorcycle. Like other Ducatis, it's not an easy bike to ride, nor is it comfortable or economical, but it is a very high-performance motorcycle, a benchmark in its category. It's not a bike for everyone, both in terms of riding style, performance, and running costs.
